"Comfortable in Moscow "
For a clean and comfortable Western hotel, the Novotel Moscow is quite nice. Plus it is right next to a subway stop for easy access to the cities sights. Yes, watch the rates here. The hotel has a hotel internal exchange rate for the US$. See the fine print details on the Novotel website for the current "unit" rates. Getting your price in local currency rates (Rubles) is probably more accurate. Also you could email or call the hotel to confirm the rate before booking. I know I will verify the rate before I book there again.

"Good price for Moscow"
Booking a reasonably priced hotel in Moscow was difficult because the reviews here for anything less than the top hotels are so mixed. Stayed here for three nights in September 2006. Got a decent price from Expedia, which was the same as from Novotel's site. Payment was to Novotel on departure, rather than to Expedia on booking. This seems to be the cause of the issues others have identified. I too was confused by my final bill, but once I had gone though it with a calculator and the currect Euro exchange rate at reception, I found it to be correct.
The hotel has two bars one on the ground floor next to reception, the second on the top floor was closed during our stay.
Next to the reception is Europcar car booking desk who will arrange taxis or car hire. The price for transfer to the airport was around £14, however the staff got our departure date wrong, and called us at 5 am the day before we needed the taxi. However, I recommend you book transfers to the hotel before arriving at Moscow airport as taxi fares there are a rip-off (£125!).
The hotel in situated in a suburb of Moscow, but is right next to a metro station, so travel to the main sights is easy once you figure out the signage in the metro.
The hotel appears to be more of a business hotel than a tourist hotel, but don't be put off if you can get a good price.

"Great stop, and if your lucky great rate"
I stayed at this Hotel, with the family, in January 2006, during the orthodox xmass time. It's propably the only Hotel in Moscow where you could stay with 4 in one room. We had a excellent rate of €100/pn, non refundable w/o BF. This is for Moscow a great rate. BF is 25 units pp. But children have free BF. Rooms are standard Novotel.
I guess we had extreme luck as rates for later dates are much higher and more what you would consider typical Moscow. We had a tower room at the 16th floor, very quit, spacius enough, to hot inside, no coffeemachine (bring your own waterboiler).
Location is just great. Metro: ringline and a line to the centre just around the corner (50m). It took us only 15min to the red squire. Restaurants (sushi, chinese, mcdonalds) an shops also just around the corner.
Two downsides: Rooms where to warm/hot and not adjustable. Outside temp was -25C/-15C so you can imagne that preparing for going outside was no fun.
We had a problem with Housekeeping. We put some worn Tshirts, underwear and socks in a Novotel plastic bag and put it under other the clothes as we would use again. Housekeeping found the bag (and you had really look for it)and took it to dry-kleening (even there was no form on it and signed). They wanted to charge us €60 for this non-service which i obviuosly did not agree upon and after talking with the manager we did not have to pay for it. My son of 12 was very glad as he had his first drycleaned/ironned underwear.
Beside these negatives I would really recommend this Hotel for those who travel with family and find the right cheaper rate
